Sigung James Astin expressing the need for refinement through continuous reinfrocement of the basics and how self defense maneuvers are required to be spontaneous yet can have a great deal of control.
Speed is undoubtably one of the factors precipitating quality Martial Artistry. Sigung James Astin ligthheartedly demonstrates the quality and discusses this with his Students.
Sifu Gettleman had no idea that he would be giving a self defense presentation when he came up to Sacramento to review an evaluation for two students passing from level III to level IV. The beauty of this, is that he himself was being put on the spot. There was no preparation for this video. His prior training was all that he had to rely upon. Sigung James B. Astin was very proud of his most senior student who represented the principles of Wu Chi Chuan very well and with command. Meaning that, they have learned that other approaches are less than optimal. The "point" as Sifu Gettleman aptly points out is that, while practice of specific techniques is important, it is the Wu Chi principle of presence that will ultimately prove most useful.
The Wave Principle is extremely subtle, but not complex! As can be seen.
These are our first ten basic training combinations that train the student in technique footwork, coordination, control, and fitness. Not intended as self defense or combative. Intended for the sole purpose of developing the skill necessary to learn effective defensive strategies and combat survival.
This is a brief tutorial on agility training for precision footwork the classical kung fu way. A gym environment can't immitate this.
